What motivates us to work? Contrary to conventional wisdom, it isn’t just money. But it’s not exactly joy either. It seems that most of us thrive by making constant progress, meeting challenges, and feeling a sense of purpose. In this TED talk, behavioral economist Dan Ariely presents several eye-opening experiments that reveal our unexpected and nuanced attitudes toward meaning in our work. -via KarmaTube
How do we create a sense of meaning, pride, and motivation that produces both more happiness and efficiency both in life and in how we work? What role does one’s Sense of Self play? As I listened intently to this TEDTalk, it occurred to me that being ignored or feeling that one’s efforts have been annihilated would greatly and negatively impact a person with a Lack of Sense of Self.
What about the impact on a person with a stronger and healthier Sense of Self?
It isn’t simply about the money we are paid to work. It is how we value ourselves and the self-acknowledged pride and ownership we assign; and that takes a strong and healthy sense of one’s self–as beings who value being seen and appreciated from the moment we are born.
