A person’s eyes moving around restlessly searching for opportunities to “score” (see below) which would fill the need for approval and “Feeling-good-about-self”.

A scanning-mode-use-of-the-eyes indicates activity aimed at achieving an unhealthy way to experience yourself.

It is as if you are continuously at the lookout for opportunities to earn that state of “Feel-good-about-self”. Subconsciously you are in a state of high alert because you perceive your life depends on finding those opportunities. You are like a hunter spying around where to aim at.
