This Is Our Vision for a Sense of Self Health Care Center

What if we could decrease our health care costs by building a Health Care Center for Healing designed to empower people to have a Healthy Sense of Self?

Healthcare is reaching a crisis level in the United States. We know about the benefits and successes of building a healthy sense of Self: the positive lasting impact on mind, body, and spirit.

We recognize that preventative health is key to creating a healthy body and mind.

Americans are tired of hearing negative news about high costs and lack of comprehensive health insurance, are you amongst them?

What if we told you we have a potential solution in mind, would you pay attention? It’s our belief that if we learn to take responsibility for our health; using lessons from the Sense of Self (SoS) Method, and other preventative health measures, there could be considerable savings and health benefits for all.

Those who would benefit include insurers, individuals, and our government. High costs of health care are killing us and we are losing valuable energy in trying to fill the hole in the bucket. This is time we could use to grow and gain that much needed healthy sense of ourselves!

High Cost of Healthcare in the United States

The affordability of basic medical care is a hardship that only increases every year. The Affordable Care Act has expanded insurance coverage to more individuals, but it hasn’t done anything to stop prices from escalating. And the Trump administration is making every effort to stop what meager coverage exists.

More Americans will be less likely to seek treatment because they can’t afford the costs, which means this situation is likely to be the premature death of us!

Patients are already choosing to buy groceries over life-saving diabetes medications and delay seeking treatment until hospitalization is required. Others avoid seeking treatment because they fear the costs, even if they have insurance because the costs with their high deductibles are more than they can afford to pay.

If we developed a health care center, teaching HySoS and other healthy behaviors, we could be proactive with our health.

Preventative medicine could help us save vast amounts of money.

We could not only save money but be proactive in keeping good health. One key requirement is the participation of the individual patient to do this: to a much bigger extent than so far is the case, we need to take responsibility for our own health Our body reacts to what we do, what we think, what we plan, what our dependencies are, hidden or overt. Even though this is a difficult piece to put into place, let us have a closer look at how to get started.

Americans can be too quick to seek medical treatments instead of looking carefully at the root of the cause. Cases to consider:

  • Back pain. Most back pain surgeries don’t succeed. Patients are left in more pain than ever. What if we examined the root causes first? Our center could help people reduce those causes including stress, tension, poor posture, and weak stomach muscles.
  • Obesity. We have all noticed this. It’s complicated, no doubt. What if we could address some of the root causes and be able to motivate individuals thus preventing more obesity?
  • Patients are looking for doctors to “fix them” instead of finding and using a solution to keep themselves healthy. This passive attitude keeps a person dependent on their physicians for the next pill or injection.

Unfortunately, many patients want a “quick fix” and are resistant to learn how our minds can help us heal. This is due partly, to the real-life necessity to earn our daily bread but also, and maybe even more so, because we already are a slave of our subconsciously decided strategies to feed our artificial Sense of Self. With the right guidance, we could help change these “quick fixes” to people accepting responsibility for their health.

Our doctors (and our society) rely too heavily on “Big Pharmaceuticals.”

In a recent story covered by NBC News in June, hundreds of deaths were tragically attributed to the over-prescribing of a highly addictive drug 100 times more potent than morphine.

Insys Therapeutics officials were indicted for fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy in court. The fraud charges stem from misuse and over-prescribing of this powerful drug, which was approved by the FDA for use only by cancer patients.

In this unfathomably unethical case, company employees convinced doctors and insurance companies to over-prescribe this addictive drug to patients who should never have received it.

Preventative medicine is imperative.

We envision a health center providing healthy and proactive care. People could take courses about the Healthy Sense of Self Method and other proven modalities.

We believe that including the ancient practices of meditation, yoga, and Ayurveda would give individuals a way to decrease stresses in their lives that cause disease, as well as treat many illnesses without the expense of drugs or invasive medical procedures.

At our health care center for healing, we would implement courses and opportunities to learn about the many benefits of a strong Sense of Self (SoS).

As supplementary additions to the SoS method, we’d also include other wisdom, techniques, and tools that we’ve learned from the science of yoga, meditation, and Ayurvedic medicine.

Meditation

There’s a surplus of research proving that 30 minutes of meditation a day can reduce blood pressure and increase attention span. It reduces the size of the area in the brain responsible for producing anxiety and stress.

Meditation is easy to teach and requires no special equipment except for a chair or cushion. Schools and prisons have implemented meditation programs with great success; reducing violence and improving behaviors.

Yoga

Yoga is so much more than a physical fitness trend. It has been around for thousands of years. Yoga classes provide a quiet, safe place to calm the mind. It helps users to improve body image, acceptance of self, and so much more.

People improve their health and prevent injury as they become more flexible, improve balance, and increase muscle strength. It’s beneficial for people of all ages. It’s also getting a lot of attention for the benefits it provides to recovering addicts.

We have over 21 million Americans over the age of 12 who are addicted to a substance (that number is from 2014). That’s almost 1 in 10 Americans that could benefit from our Sense of Self Healing Center.

Tommy Rosen, who created the Recovery 2.0 community and podcast, believes in the power of yoga to treat the mind and body of an addict. 12 Step programs are valuable and have saved millions of lives, but Rosen proffers that without adding a tool such as yoga, the addict can’t end her addictive behaviors.

With yoga, addicts discover a new way of healthy living which we don’t find in traditional 12 step programs.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda science believes that all illnesses begin in the mind. Helping someone develop a healthy sense of Self before all else makes sense, doesn’t it? A person needs to feel worthy enough to follow their treatment protocol from an Ayurvedic practitioner.

Offering an integrated approach to healing is vital because if the mind or spirit is still ill, the body won’t heal (or will heal but much more slowly).

Neuroscience and gut health

Ayurveda has known about the brain-gut connection for millennia, and modern medicine is learning about the mind-body connection between the effect of what we put into our stomach on our brains.

Current research demonstrates the importance of diet on migraines, depression, cognitive function and much, much more. Our wellness center could share this transformative information.

Ayurveda and Chinese Medicine has long taught us that food is medicine and what we put into our bodies affects us in more ways than we can imagine. The impact of our digestive system on our overall health and well-being is significant.

The Healthy Sense of Self Health Care Center for Healing

At the health care center, we envision offices for health professionals and practitioners who could see clients individually, lead workshops, or teach big classes.

If we are able to start with children and their families, that would be a timely preventative healthcare opportunity!

Our Health Care Center for Healing would include treatments and courses for developing better daily routines and helping people overcome unhealthy eating habits.

This is much more than what our medical insurance calls preventative health. The common approved tests and diagnostic screenings often only locate an illness – never prevent one!

Nearly 40% of our total yearly mortality rate (that’s 900,000 deaths!) in the United States are onset by preventable causes such as tobacco smoking, unhealthy diet, alcohol abuse, and lack of exercise. Do you see the connection? It’s preventable, and we can do this.

Graduates from the Sense of Self curriculum feel better about themselves and would likely become more interested in alternative treatments to continue their road to better health.

It would be fantastic if those individuals would keep coming to our center to provide a peer support group or even learn to be a peer teacher. Overall, this could potentially save millions . . . avoiding the current health care system.

Have a Healthy Sense of Self

We helped many people. Check the list below to see if you could benefit from the SoS method:

  • Better overall health
  • Less stress
  • More relaxed nervous system
  • Better functioning digestive system
  • No more “self-sabotage”
  • Fewer to no (eye-)migraines
  • Better sleep
  • More vibrant and active
  • FEWER panic attacks
  • Less depression: feel better, think clearer, feel more alive and engaged
  • No suicidal thoughts or acts: more joy of living, happiness, and success
  • More self-accepting, which leads to accepting others

Since we previously mentioned the benefits of yoga for recovering addicts, we want to include our list of improvements discovered while treating people with addictive behaviors:

  • Less substance abuse; healthier habits
  • Fewer addictive behaviors; more moderation (shopping, sex, gambling, TV, food, etc.)
  • Less compulsiveness
  • Higher self-esteem
  • Being a better companion
  • Overall health
  • Less prone to accidents that are due to lack of focus and erratic behavior
  • Reduce eyestrain
  • More inner peace

Expanding the breadth of HySoS to many areas (health insurance, healthcare, schools & community programs) is a path toward lowering health care costs for everyone.

If the Republicans have their way, there will be millions more uninsured. And hospitals won’t have the capacity to serve those uninsured people waiting in emergency rooms.

It would be a fresh and innovative idea for health insurance companies, hospitals, and doctors offices to distribute the book, The Motivation Cure, by Antoinetta Vogels.

In conclusion, we want every American to learn how to be responsible for their well-being and vitality. We can do this by treating each person compassionately as a real and whole person, especially our Self! What do you think of our vision for a HySoS Health Care Center? We’d love to hear from you.
