Release the old concept of Resolutions and move into a new Resolution!

Editor’s note: Enjoy a gently updated reprint from 2013 written by my peer and fellow writer and writing mentor, Linda Zeppa. With a new year begun, again we are at a point in our “lifestory ” where we can review, assess, and choose to shift what values we lead with. We at HealthySenseOfSelf exist to support those ready to reclaim or discover for the first time what the Real Self (that is you) would take on in 2015. And if you want a DIY tool by your side check out  “A Guided Journal to a Healthy Sense of Self (filled with provocative prompts and space to react with words and doodling), newly published and available on Amazon. http://bit.ly/guidedjournal

As with every new year, we start to hear about making resolutions. Are you a resolution maker? If so, this post is for you.

It is time to dump the old concept of RESOLVING to do something. New Year’s Resolutions are old, frustrating and outdated. This concept is based on the premise that there are things terribly wrong with us, which absolutely must change or else. Most of these ”terribly wrong” things are external, often expectations of society, and focus on the negative. Strict rules, with resulting fear, expectation and punishment, must be applied. It sets us up for failure, and thus punishment, fear and disappointment. This is definitely not good for a healthy concept of oneself. Is it any wonder that most of these resolutions end up unresolved early in the new year?

I will not eat donuts. Ever.

I will not eat donuts. Ever.

The energy is (again) different this year. The year 2014 definitely brought on changes, some subtle and some downright crazy. And so it is that this year it is OK to change our idea of Resolution. Begin to understand the meaning of resolution as this:

“Definition: Resolution is the term used to describe the number of dots, or pixels, used to display an image. Higher resolutions mean that more pixels are used to create the image, resulting in a crisper, cleaner image.”     http://presentationsoft.about.com/od/r/g/resolution.htm (2012)

Begin to see things more clearly. Imagine your energy as pixels. Allow those pixels to multiply and quietly move faster. Feel the beauty and love of that energy within you. Now you are set to see things through and with a higher resolution. Clarity moves in and change happens naturally and comfortably.

Wayne Dyer says, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Be gentle and kind as you move forward looking, seeing and feeling with new resolution. A great way to move forward in 2015 maintaining a Health Sense of Self!
