As you may have heard, on Father’s Day, Oliver Hudson posted a photo of himself, sister Kate Hudson and father Bill Hudson with the caption “Happy Abandonment Day” to Instagram. On the same day, both Oliver and Kate posted a photos with themselves and step father Kurt Russell, wishing him a happy father’s day.

The posts were not received well by Bill, who publicly disowned his children on Sunday June 28th.

Bill stated: “I say to them now, ‘I set you free’. I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own.”  He went on to say that his children should ditch his last name.

In light of the entertainment news event, we couldn’t help but notice and point out that communication between family members through social media can be incredibly influential. Although it’s obviously not always this dramatic, what we say and do on social media clearly can affect out loved ones and impact our relationships with them.

We wonder: if a post like this can make one react is such a strongly negative way, could positive posts reconnect families?
